Grand Series of Poker IX Kicks Off Today

The ninth edition of the Grand Series Of Poker (GSOP) kicks off today and Betfair Poker will be bringing you a report on each of the 18 GSOP events, 18 mini-GSOP events and the eagerly anticipated Grand Slams.

When the GSOP last ran, back in March, Team Betfair absolutely destroyed who stood before them and won more than $1,185,000 over the course of the series. This year we have high hopes of cracking the magical $2,000,000 winnings barrier but if we are to do that our players will need to get off to a good start in tonight's opening event.

Tonight at 20:00 the first event of GSOP IX gets underway, and what a way to kick off this fantastic series than with a tournament carrying a $400,000 guaranteed prize pool! GSOP Event #1 is a $190+$10 No Limit Hold'em event that is sure to attract some of the best players in the business. Not only will there be some of online poker's biggest stars on show, there will also be $200 in dead money in the shape of your friendly neighbourhood Yorkshire Pudding! That's correct, yours truly is playing.

Over the next couple of weeks I will be playing in all of the Hold'em events in the main GSOP tournaments (except the rebuys) and each of the mini-GSOP events that are running alongside the main tournaments. The mini-GSOP events are superb and give players the chance to sample the greatness of the GSOP for a fraction of the cost.

The first mini-GSOP event of GSOP IX also starts tonight at 20:00 and features a $20+$2 buy-in and a huge $40,000 guaranteed prize pool. Last year's mini-GSOPs were very well supported and almost all of them smashed their guarantees making them extremely profitable indeed.
