We start today's column at FontwellToday's movers come from Fontwell and Ascot
We start with the 14:40 novice chase at Fontwell where there has been a big drift on First Fandango for Tim Vaughan. He's been backed at 2.68/5 but is now available at 3.1511/5 as punters look elsewhere for this flat-bred's chase debut. Surprisingly, chief market rival There's No Panic is also a drifter which implies a lack of fitness on his first start for two years. If First Fandango had shown an aptitude for jumping he'd surely be favourite by now. He has never won on soft ground and doesn't look the sort to go well fresh either. Main danger could be Fairy Raith. Bred for the chasing game, this expensive purchase who is sure to love the going and the step up in trip.
To Ascot now where in the 14:55 Classified Stakes there has been strong support for Jake's Destiny. The George Baker-trained three-year-old has been backed as high as 6.84n/a but now trades at 4.47/2 in a race that looks the perfect opportunity for him. A clear soft ground horse, he has shown a lot of promise this season without getting his head in front. Runner up to a pattern class horse in Chil The Kite on debut, he then ran a cracking race in heavy ground at Newmarket. He then went to Goodwood where seven furlongs proved to be too sharp and on his last start he found the ground too quick at Doncaster. This race is a big drop in class and he sneaks in right at the upper rating ceiling so he should have a big chance to get off the mark this season.
Staying at Ascot and there has been good money for Party Line in the 15:30 for Mark Johnston. This 3yo can be backed at 14.5n/a having been available at 22.75n/a. Right at the bottom of the handicap, she may find this a tough challenge. However she's a scopey Montjeu filly who, in typical Mark Johnston fashion is a hardy individual, this being her 13th start of the season. She has improved a lot already and ran a big race two starts ago at Catterick behind a well handicapped front runner in New Hampshire. She came wide that day and looked a big danger for a long way but the race was simply not run to suit and the front runner was able to kick on again and leave her floundering. She didn't see the trip out last time and this drop back should be perfect. There are serious doubts about the front four in the market with only Fattsota looking a real danger.
