Vainglory goes at York todayGood Afternoon, today's Follow The Money movers come from the meetings at Carlisle, and York...
Starting at York and today's negative where in the 14:30, a 1 mile 2 furlong Conditions Stakes Beaten Up has been easy to back moving out from 3.259/4 to a current 4.3100/30. William Haggas' four-year-old gelding has tasted success at Group level a year ago but hasn't been placed since. Although two of his last thee starts were in Group 1 company his last start a month ago was disappointing when going off favourite. With today's ground conditions an unknown challenge the lack of market confidence points to a fourth consecutive defeat.
Staying on the Knavesmire and the 15:05, a 1 mile Handicap where Vainglory has seen significant support moving from 12.75n/a into 8.88/1. David Simcock's eight-year-old hasn't recorded a win since winning this race last year but has appeared to show some sort of promise with three placed efforts during the summer. With 5lb claimer Laura Pike on board who has a 25% strike rate at York and now running off a decent handicap mark back to back victories in this race could be a distinct possibility.
Finally to Carlisle for the 17:00, a 2 mile 4 furlong Novices' Chase where Changing Times has moved from 7.5n/a into 3.7511/4. Nigel Twiston-Davies' six-year-old gelding makes his first appearance this season and his first start over the larger obstacles. With two wins last season at Fairyhouse over hurdles on ground similar to today's conditions over the same trip before switching yards he has proven his potential. With the trainer in his usual early season form and the added factor of a 24% strike rate at the Cumbrian track the market move could prove significant.
