Can Marion Bartoli pull off a shock against Maria Sharapova?
Two intriguing looking quarter-finals in the women's draw in New York today and the guys at Abelson Info have analysed the stats and picked out the best bets
Victoria Azarenka (1) v Sam Stosur (7) 16:00 Arthur Ashe Stadium
H-to-H 6-0
This is a fascinating quarter final between two players who have both looked in very good form so far in New York. It is hard to miss the fact that Azarenka has a 6-0 head to head record (all on hard courts) and has never even lost a set to Stosur. Add into that the fact that Azarenka hasn't even come close to losing a set this week and you have what appears to be a cut-and-dried winner. However, we do have to factor in that Stosur does not want to relinquish her crown without a real fight. All that said, we still can't see anything other than a win for Azarenka and another 2-0 for her record, currently trading at 1.674/6.
Selection: Azarenka 2-0 (Set Betting)
Maria Sharapova( 3) v Marion Bartoli (11) 18:00 Arthur Ashe Stadium
H-to-H 4-0
The first thing you need to address when previewing a Bartoli match is to ignore her previous matches. Bartoli will often play to the standard of the player she is up against. We have seen her struggle against players ranked below 100 yet give top five players the complete runaround. Sharapova is a difficult proposition as, when on her game, she can blow you clean away without you ever knowing what happened. We are still not convinced she is in the best form and is definitely susceptible. At the odds on offer - Sharapova at 1.182/11 and Bartoli at 6.411/2 - there is only one of any value.
Selection: Bartoli to win
