Downpatrick hosts National Hunt action this afternoon

Today is Yom Kippur, the Jewish 'Day of Atonement', and the Timeform Irish highlight three selections that are out to put the record straight at Downpatrick this afternoon.....

The opening race on the card (15:25) looks a tricky little affair on paper, but Faustina Pius has shaped well over hurdles to date and is taken to come out on top. Having already shown fair form in this sphere, Faustina Pius sets the standard on her best efforts, but comes here having underperformed at Galway last time. However, the race was not run to suit that day and, with the testing conditions looking certain to put the emphasis on stamina, she looks worth another chance.

It has been business as usual for the Willie Mullins yard this season and Zadarska (16:35) looks to have been found a good opportunity to avenge her unlucky defeat last time and add to her trainers already impressive tally. She has produced solid efforts to be placed on all three of her hurdle starts this term, the latest of which was the aforementioned effort when third to Flamenco Prince over this course and distance last time, staying-on having been left with a lot to do and meeting trouble close home. Zadarska is essentially a winner without a penalty this afternoon and looks worth supporting even at short-odds.

The handicap chase at 18:10 does not look the strongest event in the world and Dunroe Boy looks capable of regaining the winning thread. A much improved performer over hurdles earlier this season, Dunroe Boy scored on three occasions over timber, and whilst he is not so good over fences, he has been placed on all three chase starts this term. The tongue tie that was left off last time, is now back on and he looks a more solid betting proposition than the two last-time-out winners, Flamenco Prince and Let The Show Begin.
