MLB Tipping Sheet: Sabathia to pitch Yankees to victory

Miami Marlins @ Atlanta Braves

The Braves clinched a playoff spot last night following their 4-3 victory over Miami, leaving Miami sitting 66-88 for the season. Paul Maholm (12-10, 3.85 ERA) starts for the Braves. His last start was against Miami on 18 September. Maholm didn't get a decision, but gave up just two earned runs in 6.2 innings. Miami send Josh Johnson (8-13, 3.84 ERA) to the mound. Johnson has lost his last two starts, conceding three earned runs in each of then. I'm backing Atlanta tonight.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore are still in the hunt for the AL East title, but may have to settle for a wild card spot. They sit 1.5 games behind the New York Yankees having lost three of their last four games, including two of three against Toronto. This is the final game of a four game series. The Orioles will hope that Miguel Gonzlez (7-4, 3.52 ERA) continues his good form, having conceded two earned runs in his last start, a win against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. The Blue Jays' Carlos Villanueva (7-6, 3.88 ERA) was rocked for seven runs in just 2.1 innings in his last start on Friday. I have to recommend the Orioles tonight.

New York Yankees @ Minnesota Twins

After last night's 5-4 defeat, the Bronx Bombers will look to finish their trip to Minnesota with a win, to take a 2-1 series victory, and take a step closer to the division title. C.C. Sabathia (13-6, 3.47 ERA) didn't get a decision in his last start, however he threw eight shutout innings. His opponent this evening is Samuel Deduno (6-5, 4.54 ERA). Deduno will start on just three days rest. He lasted on 2.1 innings in his last start, against the Detroit Tigers, giving up seven earned runs. I don't expect the Yankees to treat him any differently. Back the Yankees!
