RA Dickey of the NY Mets
Peter Dolan remains in fantastic form after tipping three from three winners last night. How will he get on with today's MLB selections?
ESPN America, 6pm
Pittsburgh Pirates @ New York Mets
In the final game of this four game series at Citi Field, the Pirates' Kevin Correia (11-10, 4.11 ERA) takes on the Mets' knuckleballer R.A Dickey (19-6, 2.66 ERA). From what was looking like a promising season, the Pirates have lost 32 of their last 45 games. The Mets haven't fared much better, sitting at .458 after last nights win. R.A. Dickey has had a fantastic season, and won his last start, giving up two earned runs in his eight inning outing. In comparison, Correia lost his last start, conceding three earned runs over six innings. According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Mets' David Wright has a career average of .786 (11-14) against Correia. If this form continues, I expect the Mets to win this game this evening.
Kansas City @ Detroit Tigers
The Tigers will look to finish out this homestand with a sweep of the Royals. Following last night's 5-4 win, Detroit sit top of the AL Central with seven games to play. Doug Fister (10-9, 3.43 ERA) starts tonight for Detroit. Fister pitched his first complete game shutout in his last outing, an 8-0 defeat of Minnesota. The Tigers face Luis Mendoza (8-9, 4.44 ERA) who won his last start, conceding just two earned runs. However he conceded six in five innings in his last start against Detroit at the end of August. I think Detroit will have too much for Kansas City, and need to be recommended here.
Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants
Barry Zito (13-8, 4.18 ERA) and the NL West champions, San Francisco Giants, host Patrick Corbin (6-7, 4.36 ERA) and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Corbin lasted just three innings in his last start, giving up five runs in the process. Arizona have won seven of ten, but Zito will look to cool down the hot Diamondbacks. Zito hasn't lost since 2nd August, with five wins and four no-decisions since. He has conceded just three earned runs in his last three starts, a combined 18.2 innings. Back him again tonight.
