Brentford might be pleased to see the back of Tranmere's Jake Cassidy after Saturday
Following a healthy +5.05 profit (to one point stakes) from last week's games, League One expert Alan Dudman returns to support the division's leaders Tranmere Rovers, and an opportunity to side with an in-form Leyton Orient defence.
Tranmere Rovers v Brentford, Saturday 15:00
Tranmere Rovers 2.1211/10 v Brentford 3.7011/4, the draw 3.505/2
This column is fast becoming the Tranmere column, but when the layers still price up the league leaders at 2.1211/10, it's time to get back on. Rovers absolutely thumped Crawley Town last weekend, a game in which their opponents pressed the self-destruct button defensively, but Ronnie Moore's men are rampant.
The plus points look so healthy. The hosts have won all four games at Prenton Park this season, scoring 12 goals and conceding just the one. All their front players are in scoring form, and the attacking forwards are really unsettling their opponents. Teenage sensation Jake Cassidy has hit seven goals already, and Moore's counter-attacking team have loads of pace.
Brentford are a fascinating rival, as manager Uwe Rosler has always tried to maintain a pass and move philosophy. Although the Londoners have failed to win a match on the road since May, they have drawn three this term and looked one of the better sides at Bournemouth earlier this season.
The problem for the Bees has been their lack of a clinical touch. They had 15 shots on goal last Saturday
and just scraped a 1-0 victory against Oldham. They have been creating but need to finish teams off, but their task is hard this weekend.
Recommended bets:
Back Tranmere to win 1-0 8.6015/2 and 2-0 12.50n/a
Back under 2.5 goals @ 2.021/1
Back HT draw @ 2.186/5
Back Tranmere to win @ 2.1211/10
Leyton Orient v Doncaster Rovers, Saturday 15:00
Leyton Orient 2.6613/8 v Doncaster Rovers 2.8415/8, the draw 3.4012/5
Despite a slow start to the season, Leyton Orient have really picked up in their last four games and look an altogether much better team. I like the width in their side with Dean Cox and Lee Cook, who both have good quality of crossing with their impish skills. However defensively they are really impressive, due to the back four defending much higher up the pitch, with less balls coming back at them.
Saturday's 1-1 at Crewe was an excellent game as both spurned chances, whilst their 4-1 win at Yeovil the week before showed their directness and aerial threat. They do go long, and their new keeper Ryan Allsop has a monster kick.
Rovers sit mid-table but have won twice away from home this term, including a 2-1 win at struggling Colchester. Manager Dean Saunders changed his midfield set-up for that encounter, with a holding midfielder just in front of the back four, and almost played a counter attacking game knowing Colchester were under pressure to get the win.
Doncaster's defence can soak up possession well, and they'll try and restrict the crosses from out wide and defend their box from deep. I doubt they will be too open, and Orient may have to be patient, which of course leads us to the unders.
Recommended bets:
Back the draw @ 3.4012/5
Back Orient to win 1-0 9.008/1
Back under 2.5 goals @ 1.9010/11
Oldham Athletic v Coventry City, Saturday 15:00
Oldham Athletic 2.506/4 v Coventry City 3.052/1, the draw 3.4012/5
Coventry City named Mark Robins as their new manager last week, and his task looks anything but easy with
an opening league defeat at Carlisle and a midweek Cup thumping at Arsenal (6-1). The former Rotherham boss has immediately drafted in four new signings - all with an ability on the ball.
Oldham meanwhile sit nineteenth but have not picked up the points some of their play has deserved. Manager Paul Dickov has some good young players but are ruining all their good play with some sloppy defending. Three of their four home games have resulted in under 2.5 goals, and with two sides low on confidence, it should be the way to go again.
Recommended bets:
Back under 2.5 goals @ 1.9010/11
Back 0-0 11.50n/a and 1-1 @ 7.50n/a
