Chris Tillman is an in-form pitcher and should carry Baltimore to victory over Boston
With six wins from his last six tips, Peter Dolan couldn't be in better form. Here are his three bets for Friday night's MLB action
Boston Red Sox @ Baltimore Orioles
ESPN America, midnight
The opening game of this series at Camden Yards is a far cry from last year, where it was the Red Sox desperate for the win to make the post-season. The Orioles are just one game behind the Yankees in the AL East. Chris Tillman (8-2, 3.08 ERA) starts tonight for the Orioles. His last start was against the Red Sox where, despite not getting the decision, he held Boston to one run over six innings.
With just pride to play for, the Red Sox start with Aaron Cook (4-10, 5.13 ERA). His last start was against Baltimore and, like Tillman, he did not get a decision in his last start. However he gave up five runs in 5.1 innings. Orioles lead the season series 10-5, and I see them extending their lead tonight.
Chicago Cubs @ Arizona Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamonbacks have little hope of making the post-season while the Cubs will definitely not be there. Arizona start with Ian Kennedy (14-11, 4.14 ERA) tonight who, despite losing 11 matches hasn't recorded a defeat since August 25. Travis Wood (6-12, 4.23 ERA), starting for the Cubs tonight, isn't having a great year. He didn't get a decision in his last start, conceding two earned runs in 5.0 innings, and lost his start before that, conceding three earned runs in 5.2 innings. I'm backing Arizona in this one tonight.
Seattle @ Oakland
Following a successful 5-5 road trip, Oakland return home hoping to continue this form with the aim of stealing the division title from Texas. Oakland's A.J. Griffin (6-1, 2.80 ERA) take on Seattle's Blake Beavan (10-10, 4.64). Griffin didn't have his best outing of the season in his last start against the Yankees, conceding four runs in 4.1 innings, however they all came in the fourth inning. Beavan beat the Texas Rangers in his last start, shutting them out over seven innings. Despite this, I still think the A's will just about edge this one.
