Team Europe send out their strongest pairing on pair in the opening match but Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell may be worth opposing at short odds against a promising American duo. The new FedEx Cup champion Brandt Snedeker is the form of his life and, with help from veteran partner Jim Furyk, is expected to settle quickly on his debut.

All past Ryder Cup evidence suggests this is the first day banker. Garcia is the all-time leading performer in foursomes, while partner Donald has the best points ratio of anyone at Medinah. Moreover, they've proved compatible in several previous matches. In total contrast, Mickelson has a poor tournament record, especially in foursomes where his trademark inaccuracy usually proves a massive handicap for his playing partner.
