On what could potentially be a good day for the Ron Harris yard, Vincentti is fancied to edge out his market rivals to take the opening 14:20 maiden contest. The son of Invincible Spirit has twice finished runner-up in five-furlong maidens, formerly over C&D behind a subsequent winner, and looks a good bet to go one better and get off the mark today. Clearly unsuited by the step up to six furlongs when tried here at the start of August, he looks to have conditions in his favour and can get backers off to a good start.
To the next race on the card and another Ron Harris inmate, Khefyn, looks a good thing in the 14:50 to follow up his Chepstow romp a week ago. Shouldering the customary 6 lb penalty for that success, he nevertheless looks thrown in returning to the scene of a C&D victory in July. The morning defections of Bay Laurel and Twinwood Star merely enhance his credentials further, and he rates a confident, if unspectacular, selection.
Finally, it is Ron Harris who provides the opposition in the third of today's three SmartPlays. Red Avalanche has tumbled in the weights in recent months since his return to action - the Verglas gelding having missed the 2011 campaign - and looks worth chancing in the 15:20 given that he comfortably accounts for this field if anywhere near his best (rated as high as 83 this time two years ago). His last two runs have hinted at a revival in that regard, and he looks slightly overpriced at first glance this morning from a career-low mark.
