Ffos Las Placepot: Monday September 3

Martin Harley will be aboard two of today's selections.
Tony McFadden attempts to land today's Placepot at Ffos Las...
14:20 - The withdrawal of Colourist in the opening leg certainly causes complications for the Placepot. With the field down to four runners we now have to select the winner to progress, so banking on a horse would appear to be an unwise move. Vincentti has already produced a fair level of form, his latest effort, finishing second on heavy ground at Chepstow, making him of particular interest for a contest such as this. He would be the main selection for anyone hoping to keep lines to a minimum, but including all four runners in the race certainly looks to be an attractive proposition and that is the way I would be inclined to go, guaranteeing progression to the second leg.
14:50 - Once again fears abound that a spate of non-runners may leave us having to select the winner in order to progress, however, should that situation emerge, recent Chepstow winner Khefyn may prove up to the job. Seemingly relishing the soft underfoot conditions, Khefyn showed much improved form to pull clear of his rivals last time and he should be capable of winning this under a penalty.
15:20 - Having seen his mark plummet due to a string of poor efforts, Red Avalanche has shown signs of a revival lately and it may be worth taking a chance that he can capitalise on the opportunity he has been given by the assessor. He in no way represents banker material, though, so it may be worth including Greyemkay, who has appeared to be going the right way of late and comes into this contest having produced his best effort at Chepstow last time.
15:50 - Verus Delicia is thriving at present, having won her last two starts at this venue, and, although faced with a career-high mark, she is capable of completing the hat-trick under the claimer she appears to get on so well with.
16:20 - At this lowly level a steadily progressive horse can be something of a rarity, so it is worth sticking with My Meteor, a winner last time at this venue who boasts a profile that is gradually on the rise. Tony Newcombe's gelding has proven his effectiveness on a softer surface and looks to be a relatively solid proposition to make the frame.
16:50 - Not the easiest event to round off proceedings and it may be wise to include a couple of selections. Twice a winner last year, including at this venue, Supreme Spirit carries stronger claims than most, having shaped better than the bare result would imply at Wolverhampton last time. With her trainer in decent form of late, it would be no surprise to see Supreme Spirit making a bold bid for victory. Fillionaire has often operated at a higher level than this and the drop back to six furlongs at Goodwood last time seemed to conjure some improvement out of Mick Channon's filly. If building on that, she is more than capable of securing the top-three finish we require.

15:20- 4, 9
15:50- 2
