T20 World Cup Tips: Bangladesh v Pakistan

Bangladesh
After Friday's drubbing by a Brendon McCullum-inspired New Zealand the Bangladeshis will be grateful just to have a chance of progressing in this contest. It is an outside one, though. They need to win by more than 36 runs against a very strong Pakistan side. To do that they will need a much better performance in the field - against the Black Caps they dropped several chances whilst their spinners went for a collective 117 runs in their 12 overs. One of those spinners - probably Elias Sunny - should make way for seamer Abul Hasan against opponents even better at playing slow bowling than the New Zealanders were.
Pakistan
Pakistan showed just why they are the only side to have reached the semi-finals in all three of these competitions to date as they demolished New Zealand. Although the margin of victory was only 13 runs, in truth they were utterly dominant and only a late, desperate, slog by Ross Taylor kept the Black Caps within touching distance. They are likely to stick with the same side, although left-armer Sohail Tanvir could come under pressure from Mohammed Sami after a couple of wayward overs on Sunday.
Match Odds
There shouldn't really be this sort of disparity between two Test-playing nations, but Pakistan are 1.26n/a and Bangladesh 4.7n/a. The tournament has been rather lacking in upsets so far, but if anyone can produce one it is Bangladesh.
Weather & Pitch
Several of the group games have been disrupted by bad weather, including yesterday's big clash between Ireland and the West Indies. However, the forecast for Pallekelle is good and the pitch is again likely to favour batsmen.
Top Bangladesh batsman
Bangladesh really need a big score from someone if they are to have any chance of winning this game. Pakistan have just too much firepower and too much experience for Bangladesh to prevail in a low scoring contest. For all of their vaunted hitters such as Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan, it was the little-known Nasir Hossain who collared the New Zealand bowlers on Friday, making a cruel and classy fifty. Top Pakistan batsman
Several Pakistanis were among the runs on Sunday. Captain Mohammed Hafeez played steadily after being dropped third ball before he had scored, Imran Nazir chipped in with a rapid 25 and there were good scores from Umar Akmal and Shoaib Malik too. The innings which stood out, though, came from Nasir Jamshed and he will have an advantage in this game as he has spent three years playing in Bangladesh recently.
