Plumpton Placepot: Sunday September 23

Plumpton is the setting for today's Placepot perm

Jumps fan Keith Melrose is on Placepot duty today, so Hamilton's admittedly sound card is passed over in favour of Plumpton.

14:30 - One might have expected Khazium to have been shorter for this opening juvenile given his encouraging first try over timber, but as it is hurdling debutants Haymarket and Juno The Muffinman are hot on his heels in the betting, seemingly based on the fact they've both joined yards that do well in events like this. The first named of the two in particular is feared, but we can probably bank on the experienced Khazium, who looked a bit of a natural at Worcester.

15:00 - Once More Dubai is one of the best Godolphin cast-offs John Ferguson is likely to get his hands on and De Faoithesdream has looked a good prospect in winning his last two starts, but it'd be unadventurous to take either. Clear third in the betting is Dubai Glory, who was fair on the Flat and looked another decent hurdling recruit for Sheena West on his debut, so banking on him and hoping for a shock could be the way to turn any returns into lucrative ones.

15:30 - A stark contrast in quality of race relative to the last, this staying handicap chase is downright ugly for the most part. We can divide the sextet into two groups- the wrong 'uns and the rest- and simply include all three in the latter category. So Iheardu, Baily Storm and Qualypso d'Allier it is.

16:00 - A better standard of handicap, in which the standard of opposition means we can leave out favourite Western Approaches. Our pair to take him on with are First Beauty, herself in very good form of late, and Farleigh House, who must be just about the most reliable in the field and is well and truly back in form now.

16:30 - A faintly similar story to the previous leg- this race may lack in depth, but there are a couple with which we can oppose favourite Geminus and still be fairly confident of a safe passage. Illysantachristina has run a couple of solid races of late and generally has a smooth-travelling style which befits a sharp track like this (she won on her sole previous visit). Galiotto was initially hit hard for winning an ordinary novice here on his hurdling debut back in spring last year, but his mark has now dropped to a realistic one and his last two starts have suggested that a win perhaps isn't far away. He ran on the Flat just over a month ago and trainer Gary Moore will probably have him tuned up for this race at a track he likes to target.

17:00 - An interesting novice handicap chase, with a few chasing debutants adding spice to what's essentially a low-grade race. One of those set to make their chasing bow is Truckers Benefit, who can boast plenty of point form and is a brother to very smart chaser Tanks For That. He's included with the hope that he's ready to go first time up. Shropshirelass takes the second slot, having no concerns over either chasing experience or fitness, while she's also been holding her form relatively well of late.
