Two backs from Goodwood and a lay from and Leicester make up today's FTM picks
Both Follow the money backs finished second yesterday; we hope to better that score today with 14:20 Claude Monet, now available to back at 2.727/4, trading having started at 5.24/1. Foaled in Brazil, this colt is considered to be two-and-a half years old for weight purposes and thus gets a generous looking allowance from the rest of the field. Main dangers are Uriah Heep, who sets a good form standard but ran badly after a gelding operation, and a couple of Hamdam Al Maktoum owned horses; and these are generally given plenty of time and experience through their maiden races. There was enough to like about Claude Monet's debut to recommend a back in this race.
Second back is Kieran Fallon ride Liber Nauticus in the 14:55. Early-comers were matched at double-figures and she now trades at the head of the market around 4.67/2. Clearly, the Stoute debutant has been showing plenty of promise at home.
Dark Emerald is a weakening favourite in the 15:40, trading at 2.8415/8 after early exchanges around 2.15n/a. Considered good enough to run in the Coventry Stakes, this one has an obvious chance back in maiden company. Much depends on how Dark Emerald has progressed since Royal Ascot but seven furlongs at Leicester in September is likely to bring out the merits of the slower-developing 2-y-os, and a couple from the bunch have been backed to beat him and we're siding with the field against him.
