Dortmund's Robert Lewandowski scored on his last start
As the champions of Germany and Holland collide, early season results suggest a goal-heavy fixture could be in the offing...
Borussia Dortmund v Ajax, Tuesday 19:45, Sky Sports Red Button, Match Odds: Borrussia Dortmund 1.444/9, Ajax 8.615/2, The Draw 5.04/1
Considering Borussia Dortmund managed to retain their Bundesliga title last season, their short-lived journey in the Champions League was rather hard to fathom, especially as the team that they outmuscled by eight points to clinch the league - and beat three times last season - Bayern Munich, made the final.
Dortmund have a notable European pedigree too, having won this competition back in 1996/97.
All the more curious then that the Germans were found floundering at this stage last season, in a group where Arsenal were the only considerable hurdle to overcome.
The only credible explanation can perhaps be attributed to a naivety born out of an nine-year exile for from Europe's top table. A year on though, the lessons should have been learned from some painful nights in the Champions League.
Two convincing home wins have marked a bright start to their Bundesliga campaign, with Saturday's 3-0 thumping of Bayer Leverkusen serving as a significant confidence booster ahead of this midweek assignment.
However, as Opta tell us, Ajax will not make overly welcome visitors to Signal Iduna Park as Dortmund have won none of their three Champions League home games against Dutch sides.
Ajax, like their hosts, have won the last two national championships, and will be hard to beat having frustrated Lyon on the road last season as well as beating Dinamo Zagreb away from home.
Over/under 3.5 goals
Ajax have started their season in free-flowing mood. In all five of their Eredivisie games so far, the Dutch champions have scored at least two goals, racking up an incredible 17 altogether, culminating in three wins and two draws.
This run has seen four out of the five games produce over 3.5 goals and two of those produce over 4.5 goals.
Dortmund's opening encounters of the season have all been marked by goals too, with three out of their four games in all competitions topping the 2.5 mark.
Best Bet: Back over 3.5 goals @ 2.8815/8
Other Recommended Bet: Back the draw @ 5.04/1
