Catterick plays host to all three of this afternoon's SmartPlaysThree selections from this afternoon's meeting at Catterick.
A competitive seven-furlong nursery to kick the SmartPlays column off, but with conditions to suit it is worth siding with Jubilee Games in the 15:30. Richard Fahey's colt posted back-to-back successes earlier in the season and comes into this race having run his best race to date back down in trip when runner-up in a similar race as this at Chester last month. Just 1 lb higher today, he looks to be on a fair mark and despite this being a race in which all seven runners have chances he gets the nod at morning prices.
An hour later on the card and Bold Cuffs is fancied to open his account in handicap company. The Dutch Art gelding has gradually got the hang of things in handicaps over the summer and was worthy of extra credit when third under an overly-aggressive ride at Chester latest. The return to one-and-a-half miles today looks sure to suit, and he is another who looks slightly overpriced at first show this morning.
Finally, the front-running Perfect Honour can take the second division of the five-furlong amateur riders' handicap at 17:35. Back down in trip and in blinkers for the first time, the Exceed and Excel mare produced a career best to win for first time since 2009 on her first outing since leaving Des Donovan at Kempton last week, tracking the pace and keeping on well to lead over one furlong out. Reappearing quickly under a penalty, she looks capable of following up and can round off the day in good style for backers.
