Exeter is the venue for today's two bets.
David Cleary heads to Exeter for Thursday's selections...
It's been a quiet few days on the racing front since Sunday's Arc meeting, and today's fare doesn't entirely set the pulse racing but there are some interesting horses on view at both this afternoon's jump meetings, Exeter and Worcester, so there should be something to be learnt, even if money-making opportunities aren't that plentiful.
Exeter is probably the place to go for trying, though, with top of the bill that most likeable mare Southway Star. She is bidding for a fifth win of the season, in the handicap hurdle at 16.20, all the previous four gained under today's rider Micheal Nolan. She still looks well treated under a penalty for a recent success at Newton Abbot, has conditions to suit and faces pretty ordinary opposition.
Earlier on the Exeter card, at 14.50, another mare, Jewellery, is likely to start favourite. She is on a hat-trick after wins at Fontwell and Newton Abbot on consecutive days last month and has a good form chance but it's possible much softer ground may tell against her here. In any case, Flying Vic is an interesting runner against her. His form reads well and he clearly must have had a problem when pulled up on his handicap debut last December, this his first outing since. Flying Vic remains with plenty of potential.
