Both of Jamie's tips run at SalisburyJamie Lynch gives a couple of his best bets ahead of Monday's racing.
Given the difficult ground conditions around the country, which affects each of today's venues, coupled with the tricky time of the year when form is less trustworthy, it's a day for speculation rather than conviction. There's obvious speculation involved in backing a horse whose last five form figures read 00000, but there are good reasons for thinking that The Betchworth Kid will bounce back in the 17:00 at Salisbury. The main point is that, during his quiet spell, in better races than this afternoon's, The Betchworth Kid has dropped over a stone in the handicap, and a stable change - back to the in-form Michael Bell from Alan King - might just do something to perk him up, added to which he has optimum conditions here. Including his hurdles record, The Betchworth Kid has a good strike rate when the ground is testing, and it also helps that he has been there and done that as far as the track is concerned, one from one at Salisbury. With doubts about the market leaders, Malekov (very different ground) and Spifer (temperament), The Betchworth Kid looks a big price at around 8.615/2.
Sticking to Salisbury, and sticking to the speculative theme, Custom House is worth a pop in the 15:25, a race that looks there for the taking. Les Verguettes isn't fresh, which is a negative for her, and See The Storm isn't a regular winner, which is a negative for him, whereas Custom House has the big positive of going back on testing ground this afternoon. Prior to his last two flops, on all-weather, Custom House was proving resurgent on soft/heavy ground, winning at Brighton and finishing second (between subsequent winners) at Lingfield. Being back in headgear (first-time hood) may also do something for him, but the heavy ground, the very heavy ground at Salisbury, is the major appeal regards Custom House, who's off the same mark as that Lingfield second. There's at lot to gain and little to lose at his odds of 14.013/1.
