Timeform look ahead to a conditions event at York on Friday...
Beaten Up created quite an impression in winning all 3 starts in 2011, including Group 3 St Simon Stakes, but appears to have deteriorated since last year, disappointing at Doncaster last month and hooded now.
Circumvent won 9f Goodwood handicap last year. Third in Winter Derby at Lingfield (AW, 1m) in March, but in and out since, with headgear/tongue strap worn when below par at Ayr last time. NON RUNNER.
Mijhaar was only narrowly denied by Gatewood in Wolferton at Royal Ascot and better than bare result next 2 starts, but ran as if amiss in the Cambridgeshire since and has a question to answer now.
Modun progressed into a smart performer for Sir Michael Stoute in 2011. Back to best when third in September Stakes at Kempton last month, but followed that up with lesser effort at Chester a week later.
Prince Siegfried is a smart performer around 1m, winning minor event at Epsom and Group 3 at Windsor last season. Back to form after 4 months off when third in Newbury minor event last time and should go well again.
St Moritz is an unreliable sort who's not as good as he was, though showed he's still capable of useful form when second at Ripon in August. Below par all 3 starts since, though, and 1m seems to suit better.
Woodacre is a Pyrus half-brother to 2003 2-y-o 5f winner Reidies Choice and winner in Greece. Bumper winner and runner-up all 3 other runs in that sphere, but set very stern test here on Flat debut.
Expense Claim was progressive when winning first 3 starts this year. Found frame on next 3 outings, twice in listed company, and needed run returned to handicap company after 10 weeks off at Newbury recently.
Model Pupil is from the family of Oaks winner Reams of Verse. Won 11-runner maiden at Newmarket in April by nose from Shantaram (strong form) and better still when touched off by same margin in Chester Vase since.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Prince Siegfried
2. Model Pupil
3. Expense Claim
Timeform Verdict: Model Pupil was most progressive when last seen in May, but a 5-month absence is a little off-putting and Prince Siegfried is preferred on the back of a season-best effort at Newbury recently. Expense Claim shaped better than the result after a break last time and is another to consider.
