Timeform Daily: Friday, Haydock 16:45

Haydock is the venue for Friday's Race of the Day.

Timeform look ahead to an interesting handicap over a mile at Haydock on Friday...

Muffin McLeay landed gamble in 1m Ripon handicap in July. Poor run after 8 lb rise on heavy at Ayr next time and ground could be a concern here also.

Justonefortheroad won twice in the mud over 7f earlier this year, the first success after an absence. Badly out of sorts when last seen in August but returns from a break with ground in his favour.

Talwar contested some good races since winning 1m AW listed event on reappearance. Will need return to very best to make first start in handicap a winning one here, however.

Chosen Character has had a superb year, winning 5 times, including 3 for this rider. Form of latest C&D success working out, goes well in the mud, and has plenty going for him.

Jake's Destiny improved when winning 1m Ascot minor event a fortnight ago, digging deep in first-time tongue tie. 2 lb rise demands more but no surprise to see him go well again.

Toto Skyllachy made the frame for a sixth time since Beverley (8.5f) win in May when length second at Thirsk (7f) last month. Up 3 lb so more needed.

Extraterrestrial is hard to win with nowadays, stretching losing sequence to 19 when beaten 5 lengths by Chosen Character over C&D last month.

Vito Volterra is a front runner who was back on scoreboard at Pontefract (1m) in July. Did too much too soon at York last week and remains in form.

Al Muheer is a hold-up type who won twice in the spring. Kept busy since, only fourth over C&D last time, though this is a drop in grade.

Kyllachy Star has been generally consistent without adding to tally this year. Handicap mark creeping downwards, though, and quickly back with Richard Fahey. Check the betting.

Crown Counsel is useful on his day, winning 3 times at around 1m in 2011, including here. 2 lb below last winning mark and fine second at York last week. One to consider.

Tiger Reigns made frame 3 times despite drawing a blank in 2011. Lightly raced this year, and been given a real chance by the handicapper. Third to Chosen Character here last time and can get closer now.

Viva Ronaldo has gained 3 of his 4 turf wins at Chester. Not seen to best effect behind Chosen Character there last time and plenty more needed here. 1 of 4 runners from yard.

Benzanno has improved since fitted with a hood, winning 1m Epsom handicap in July. Good second there last time but more needed to take this.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Jake's Destiny
2. Chosen Character
3. Crown Counsel

Timeform Verdict: Chosen Character is thriving and the obvious starting point but the vote goes to Jake's Destiny who took a big step forward when scoring at Ascot. Crown Counsel is another to consider on the back of a good second at York.
