Flemington hosts Group 1 action on Saturday

The Listed UCI Stakes (04:00 BST) is the first recognised step towards the Derby in Melbourne and a big field of three-year-olds are set to face the starter in the 1800m contest. As expected there are plenty of improving types in the field but the Peter Snowden-trained Tatra comes down from Sydney to set a clear standard on form. He's open to good improvement himself and the $5.30 currently available appeals as good odds.
The Yellowglen Vintage Stakes (04:40 BST) provides another chance for a Sydney-based three-year-old to come down and land the spoils. Villa Splendido was terrific first up in a race run in strong overall figures at Randwick. Steps up in trip today but she is bred to relish that and that $5.00 on offer looks good shopping.
The SW+P conditions of the feature, The Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (07:20 BST) plays right into the hands of current Melbourne Cup second-favourite Green Moon. Getting a kilo or even two off an even bunch of weight-for-age horses drags his rating to the top of the pile and the C&D look set to prove ideal for him. Expecting him to step up today in a race that the stable have a great record in. $5.50 is over the odds.
