Chris Tillman from the Baltimore Oriles
Peter Dolan is on MLB Tipping duty for the final day of the regular season...
The final day of the baseball regular season is upon us, with the AL East and AL West titles coming down to game 162. With the AL West contenders, Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers, playing each other, I'm staying clear of this 'final'. Instead I'll focus on the AL East contenders, New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, and select a third game from the Major Leagues.
Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees
Boston fans will be glad that this is the last game of the season. They can't take any more! The Yankees need a win for the AL East title. They start Hiroki Kuroda (15-11, 3.34 ERA) tonight. Kuroda won his last start and will be out to clinch the division title tonight. He faces his fellow countryman, Daisuke Matsuzaka (1-6, 7.68 ERA). Matsuzaka's season mirrors that of his team - terrible! Dice-K hasn't won since 27th August. He lasted just three innings in his last start, giving up five earned runs. I recommend backing the Yankees.
Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays
The Orioles go with Chris Tillman (9-2, 2.78 ERA) tonight. Tillman conceded just one earned run over eight innings in his last start, a win against the Boston Red Sox. This start was described as 'outstanding'. He faces Jeremy Hellickson (9-11, 3.20 ERA). Hellickson lost his last start against the White Sox. With a win tonight Baltimore can win the AL East title, or at the very least secure home-field advantage in the wild-card game. With all this on the line, I'm backing the Baltimore Orioles tonight.
Colorado Rockies @ Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona just missed out on a playoff spot this season. They start Ian Kennedy (15-11, 4.16 ERA) tonight. Kennedy is 3-0, with one no decision, over his last four starts, with an ERA of 2.67 ERA. ESPN.com also tell us that in three starts against Colorado this year, Kennedy is 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA and 25 strikeouts over 20 innings. The Rockies finish the season with Jeff Francis (5-7, 5.75 ERA). Francis' form has not been anywhere near as good as Kennedy's. He conceded five runs in his last start, a defeat to the Los Angeles Dodgers, and lasted just four innings. In fact he hasn't pitched six innings since 25th July. On the basis of this, I can't recommend Arizona enough tonight!
Recommended Bets
Back New York Yankees at 1.351/3 or higher
Back Baltimore Orioles at 1.528/15 or higher
Back Arizona Diamondbacks at 1.511/2 or higher
