Middle Park Stakes: Mosse takes Reckless ride

Mosse retains the ride on Reckless Abandon
French jockey Gerald Mosse will travel to Newmarket this weekend to partner top juvenile Reckless Abandon in the Middle Park Stakes...
Adam Kirby partnered the Clive Cox-trained juvenile to win his maiden at Doncaster and the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, but a ban picked up for his use of the whip on the latter occasion meant Mosse came in for the ride when he won the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte.
Mosse, who was in Group 1-winning action at Longchamp on Sunday, then partnered the youngster to an impressive victory in the Prix Morny at Deauville.
"The horse is in good form and Gerald Mosse will ride him on Saturday," said Cox.
Kirby will still have strong claims of landing the Group 1 prize as he will take the ride on the Marco Botti-trained Moohaajim.
He was fifth behind Reckless Abandon in the Morny, having not enjoyed a smooth passage, and has since landed the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury under Kirby.
Kirby said: "They are two very special horses and to be honest, I don't think there is a lot between them. We'll find out on Saturday."
Botti said: "We went to Newbury with confidence. It's always dangerous to say beforehand that 'we're going to win', but we were confident.
"He came out of the race in very good order and we have been very happy with the horse. He had an easy piece of work at the weekend and went fine - so it's so far, so good.
"It would be frustrating and a big concern if the ground went too soft because he is a good mover. By Cape Cross, in theory, he should handle a little bit of cut but I wouldn't like to try him on soft ground yet.
"I think eventually he will get a mile. I wouldn't be concerned to step him up to seven furlongs this year but just because the Middle Park and Dewhurst are on the same day, it makes sense to stick at six.
