Both bets run at Pontefract
Timeform Radio pundit Rory Delargy serves up a pair to follow at Pontefract
Best bet on a day weakened by the late cancellation of day one of the Ayr Western Meeting comes via Phil Kirby's Jawaab. The selection was a slightly unlucky loser when highlighted here on his penultimate start, but justified my faith when landing something of a gamble at Newcastle last time.
Jawaab carries a penalty in the 16:30 at Pontefract, but the manner of his Gosforth Park win suggests he can shrug it off. The son of King's Best has thrived since joining Kirby, and has also been successful in a charity Flat race at York which doesn't appear in the form figures. He has proved that he stays a well-run 2m on his last two starts, and possesses more tactical speed than most of his rivals.
Still relatively unexposed as a stayer, he gives the impression he has more to come, and can go very close.
In the opening contest (14:30) on Pontefract's card, the well named Consistant should provide a solid back-to-lay option. Brian Baugh's gelding has finished second on both starts over C&D, and his forcing style should again see him trade short in running (traded shorter than Evens on both those defeats). He's clearly well suited to a turning track over this trip, and meets largely out-of-form rivals. The booking of the promising Daniel Muscutt is another plus.
Recommended Bets
Back Jawaab @ 7.06/1 in the 16:30 Pontefract (NAP)
Back Consistant @ 7.87/1 in the 14:30 Pontefract (NB)
