Toronado (red) winning at Doncaster.
Toronado is likely to wind up his juvenile campaign back at Doncaster in the RP Trophy after taking the Champagne Stakes on Saturday...
Connections of the Richard Hannon-trained colt, now rated 114p by Timeform, look like opting for the Town Moor feature on October 27 rather than going for the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp earlier in the month.
The son of High Chaparral stretched his unbeaten record to three with a game all-the-way win over Dundonnell in the seven-furlong Group Two.
"Toronado looked very good when winning the Champagne," Hannon told www.richardhannonracing.co.uk.
"We knew that seven furlongs was his bare minimum as he is a galloper, so I told Hughesie (Richard Hughes) not to stand for any messing about and that if nobody else wanted to make the running he should take up the cudgels.
"It all worked out well and Toronado showed a great attitude to beat off all-comers.
"Being by High Chaparral, he will stay well next season, and he is a sound horse who seems to go on any ground.
"Hughesie has always felt that he could be one for the Derby next season, but we will take it one step at a time, and I would think his last race of this year will be the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster.
"He qualifies for French premiums, but we have Olympic Glory for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp on Arc day, and the plan is to run him there."
