Miguel Gonzlez from the Baltimore Orioles
After going three from three, including backing Oakland at odds against, Peter Dolan is in confident mood ahead of Friday's MLB tipping sheet...
Baltimore Orioles @ Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox have been in freefall since their collapse at the end of last season, resulting in the dismissal of Terry Francona, the hiring of Bobby Valentine, and the dumping of a quarter of a billion dollars worth of contracts to the Dodgers. The Orioles have had contrasting fortune, with Buck Showalter's side battling it out with the Yankees for the AL East title.
Tonight sees the Orioles' Miguel Gonzlez (6-4, 3.57 ERA) take on the Red Sox's Jon Lester (9-12, 4.95 ERA). Gonzalez got a no decision in his last outing, a 3-2 victory over the Rays. Lester lost his last start. He gave up three earned runs in the seventh innings, after six scoreless innings. The Red Sox have little to play for, whilst the Orioles are determined to win every game. I'm backing Baltimore this evening.
Arizona Diamondbacks @ Colorado Rockies
The Diamondbacks travel to Colorado for a four game weekend series. They've won three of their last four games, and take on a Rockies side who have lost their last six. Arizona send the rookie Wade Miley (15-10, 3.10 ERA) to the mound to face off against Drew Pomeranz (1-9, 5.06 ERA). Miley has had a good rookie season, though he has given up three or more runs in each of his last four starts. Pomeranz got his only win of the season on 6th July, and has had two losses and two no decisions in his last two starts. Arizona are my pick for tonight.
San Diego Padres @ San Franciso Giants
The Giants are 10 games clear of the LA Dodgers at the top of the NL West, having swept the four game series against the Colorado Rockies. Looking solely at his seasons numbers, I would fancy Ryan Vogelsong (12-9, 3.65 ERA) to get the better of Casey Kelly (2-1, 5.85 ERA) tonight. Kelly has only made four major league starts, making his debut on 27th August. However Vogelsang has lost his last two starts and looks to be struggling. He lasted just 3.1 innings in his last start, giving up six earned runs. Kelly won his last start, conceding just two earned runs over six innings. Given the above, I'm hesitant to back the Giants tonight, so I'm going to recommend going with the overs on the runs line.
Recommended Bets
Baltimore Orioles to win at 2.265/4
Arizona Diamondbacks to win at 1.784/5
San Diego Padres @ San Francisco Giants: Over 7.5 runs at 2.0811/10
