Portsmouth's patched together team is still winless this season although Michael Appleton's new faces have been an upgrade on the youth teamers who suffered a Capital One Cup hiding at Plymouth in their opener. Since then Pompey have rallied, recording two draws in League One, including a 1-1 draw in a repeat of this fixture in their opening league game. Worrying for Portsmouth fans though is their inability to keep a clean sheet, something they have not managed to do in their last 12 games. South coast rivals Bournemouth have only fared slightly better, starting 2012/13 as draw specialists, finishing level in four out of their five opening matches. However, in Lee Barnard and Tommy Elphick, the Cherries do have players in form - with two apiece already - and you'd expect their attack to hurt this newly formed defence.

Exeter's 3-0 opening day home defeat to Morecambe in their first game back in League Two since relegation had the alarm bells ringing for Grecians fans. However, the result obviously served to galvanise the west country outfit who have turned it swiftly around with three convincing league wins, scoring eight goals and conceding just one. The first of those victories came over tonight's visitors Aldershot, a 2-1 win away at The EEB Stadium over Dean Holdsworth's side, who have only recorded one win from four in the league. Traditionally, the Shots make welcome visitors to St James' Park too, as the Devon side have not lost to them at home in 28 games, a run stretching back to the 1954/55 season.
