Could Defoe be Leicester City bound?
Could Jermain Defoe really be heading back to the Premier League in a dressing room not marshalled by Harry Redknapp?
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could receive up to 200million over the next 12 months to strengthen his squad.
The Dutchman spent in excess of 145million over the summer ahead of his first season in charge at Old Trafford but the spree is not about to stop there as the club look to build a squad capable of challening for the Premier League title.
The Times claim United officials are preparing to offer van Gaal even more spending power over the course of the next year, with a host of players linked to the club. There are ongoing reports linking the Red Devils with January swoops for Roma and Netherlands playmaker Kevin Strootman and Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels.
The Sun is also reporting that van Gaal has identified England right-back Nathaniel Clyne as a possible target after a string of impressive performances for Southampton this season.
Meanwhile, under-pressure Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will also be handed additional funds to strengthen his squad in January with two more players linked with moves to the Emirates.
According to the Telegraph, Wenger will be handed 20million to spend next month and will fork out some of his kitty on Ipswich Town defender Tyrone Mings.
The highly-rated 21-year-old can play as either a centre back or a left back and the report says Arsenal will test Ipswich's resolve with a bid of around 8million.
The Daily Express are again linking the Gunners with a move for Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. It is thought Wenger wants a new holding midfielder in north London and he believes he can beat Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs to his signature by offering Saints 15million in January.
One player who continues to be linked with an exit from Arsenal is Costa Rica winger Joel Campbell.
He is a long-term target for Inter Milan and Talksport believe Roberto Mancini's side are also interested in Spurs flop Erik Lamela.
However, Porto striker Jackson Martinez will not be moving to the Premier League in the near future, according to the player's agent. The Colombian international's representative, Henrique Pompeu, is quoted in the Daily Star as saying he is happy at Porto and will not leave in January amid reported interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs.
Elsewhere, Leicester City are mulling over the option of signing Toroto FC forward Jermain Defoe in January, according to the Leicester Mercury, while sought-after Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva says he would prefer to join Real Madrid over Manchester United or Arsenal.
