Against All Odds: Boa's misery to continue in Brazil

Have Boa blown their shot at top flight Brazilian football?

It's four defeats on the spin for Brazil's Boa yet they are odds-on for their clash with Vila Nova tonight...something which Paul Robinson can't understand.

Boa v Vila Nova
Tuesday October 14, 23:30 BST

Boa have dropped to ninth in Serie B following four straight defeats. They are now 10 points adrift of the promotion places and with only nine games to go, it's highly unlikely that they'll be playing their football in the top flight next year.

Worryingly, Nedo Xavier's side didn't even manage to score a goal during the defeats and while three of them were away, it's just two wins from their last four at home. It would be remiss to not also point out that they faced the top three during that run, but once you get on a downer, it's sometimes hard to stop the rot.

Vila Nova were promoted to this division from Serie C last term but the Goias based club have struggled in the second tier. A whopping 20 defeats from their 29 fixtures has them in 19th place - 10 points adrift of safety.

Christian Lauria's men have shown some battling qualities of late however as they've won two of their last four and, perhaps more importantly, they've recorded victories on their last three trips away from Serra Dourada. While they did come against the teams in 16th, 17th and 18th, it would have boosted their confidence no end.

A quick glance at the league table would have you believe that the hosts are bankers tonight but for the reasons outlined above, it's not quite so cut and dried. That's why, with Boa trading as low as 1.574/7, I have to make them my lay of the day.
