Against All Odds: Goals at a premium for Ghana and South Korea

Things are that bad that the Ghana players are praying to score a goal

There's another international friendly in Miami tonight as Ghana take on South Korea in what should be a low-scoring affair.

Ghana were the leading African nation at the last World Cup in 2010 and they are confident of doing even better this time. I can't quite see that though as while they were desperately unlucky in South Africa to be knocked out in the quarters by Uruguay, they haven't been in that great form of late.

James Kwesi Appiah's side qualified for the tournament with a 7-3 aggregate demolition of Egypt in the final play-off round, but they've lost their two most recent friendlies. Admittedly they came against Montenegro and Holland but that's not exactly the form of World Cup contenders. Both of those defeats were both by a goal to nil and since qualifying for Brazil ended, their scorelines have been 0-1, 1-0, 1-1, 0-1, 1-0, 0-0, 0-0, 1-0 and 1-0.

South Korea enjoyed their finest hour in 2002 when they co-hosted the tournament with Japan. They made it all the way to the final four before losing 1-0 to eventual runners-up, Germany. The Koreans haven't been able to top that since though as they were knocked out during the group phase in 2006 and then in the last 16 in 2010.

It's the goal-side of things we're looking at tonight though and Hong Myung-Bo's men come into this match on the back of a 1-0 loss to Tunisia. Prior to that they beat Greece 2-0, but that is the only time they've scored more than one goal in any of their last half dozen outings - while at the other end they kept two clean sheets.

Friendly games can often be a minefield but there seems to be value here with over 1.5 goals so short. That's why, at around the 1.635/8 mark, I have to make it my lay of the day.
