Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Leopardstown June 7

Dermot Weld could be the man to follow at Leopardstown

Timeform provide you with a trio of bets at Leopardstown on Friday evening...

The Jim Bolger-trained Intensified shaped extremely well on debut, finding only a superbly-bred colt of Aidan O'Brien's too strong, and he sets a fair standard in the opening contest at Leopardstown, the 17:50. Intensified attracted plenty of support prior to the race and demonstrated a professional attitude for a horse making his racecourse debut, but the step up to seven furlongs promises to see him in an even better light and he can get off the mark.

Dermot Weld may not be able to call upon Rite of Passage in the Saval Beg Stakes (19:20) but he has an able replacement in the shape of the lightly-raced Pale Mimosa. Pale Mimosa showed improved form on each start last year, staying on strongly to win the Galtres Stakes before signing off for the campaign with a creditable fifth in the Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp. Given her lightly-raced profile, Pale Mimosa may still be capable of better and should be supported to get off to a winning start this season.

Dermot Weld can also take the following race, the listed King George V Cup, with the twice-raced Resolute Response. The selection has plenty to find with his rivals on the bare form, but that is simply due to him not having had the opportunity to post a big figure. The way in which he responded to pressure to prevail in a maiden at Naas bodes well for his future prospects and the slight step up in trip can also help conjure some improvement out of the lightly-raced colt.
