Sky Dogs: Quarter-finals live on Sky Sports on Tuesday

The Greyhound Derby is at the quarter-final stage

It's a second run inside three days for the remaining 24 runners in what is turning out to be one of the best Greyhound Derby competitions in living memory. And with a good mix of early pace and stamina laden runners, Sky Sports viewers should be in for a treat on Tuesday night. Darrell Williams, who found five of the eight winners the other night, is back with his comprehensive thoughts on the full Sky card.

20:34 Derby Quarter-Final One
A wide open affair and like all the quarter-finals a good mix of early speed and stamina. Drawn together, Shaneboy Spencer and Farloe Warhawk could in theory get in each other's way, but Liz Mc Nair's charge has shown clockwork pace from the gate in all three rounds and has proved difficult to dislodge once he's hit the front. Ideally drawn in trap three for a 'ping' break and just as importantly, drawn inside, 'Warhawk' - who may not prove so effective out in trap four - he can gain first run. Sidaz Jack is well drawn back in red, but will need to step up on his third round run, while Jaytee Hellcat has an unfamiliar draw and cannot afford to break as slowly as he did the other night. He could face a ding dong battle to hold strong running Tyrur Sugar Ray for a qualifying place.
Select 3 - 4 - 2

20:49 Quarter-Final Two
Three of the top four in the ante-post market meet for the race of the Derby so far and while all three can qualify, it's far from easy sorting out who will gain the semi-final bragging rights. However, Ballymac Vic has made it look easy so far and his consistency, both at the 'gate' and on overall performance makes him hard to take on and he can take his unbeaten record into the last twelve. Screen Critic, also yet to taste defeat, further enhanced his case as a potential finalist, if not better, when winning a tremendous buckle in a thrilling race the other night and is massively respected from a perfect pitch in trap six. Droopys Jet, who hadn't raced after last December prior to the first round, will be hard to keep out of the reckoning as well, despite slight reservations about his return to trap one.
Select 3 - 6 - 1

21:04 Quarter-Final Three
Ballymac Eske, despite an unbeaten record, has had to endure plenty of debate about his performances so far, but he still remains a massive player in a bid to take his Triple Crown bid a step closer and again demonstrated his incredible racing brain the other night when getting up close home. He again rates the one to beat, especially in a race where he has managed to avoid most of the big players, but at the odds, Ringtown Snowy, having now shown his ability to trap at Wimbledon, makes plenty of appeal for a (small) win and (bigger) place wager at huge odds in the hope he can come out again. Shaneboy Alley can trap quicker than he did the other night, but may again struggle to hold Holdem Spy, who is now beginning to look like a potential finalist. Teejays Bluehawk's stamina means he will always be in with a chance, but might find the opposition too hot on this occasion.
Select 5 (win/place) - 2 - 1

21:19 Quarter-Final Four
Without doubt the weakest of the four quarters, not that connections will be worried about that! Bonamassa Rocks looked on the way back to his best with a scintillating front-running display on Saturday and with the chance to again lead up and an excellent draw inside four wide runners may well repeat the feat. However Farloe
Tango ran a huge race in defeat the other night and from his favoured trap one box gets a narrow vote to come out on top. Quite where Bittles Bar will go from trap six is anyone's guess, but while his early speed should serve him well, I fancy Airlie Impact and Carkei Max, evenly matched on Saturday's form, to both get past him, with the former, again just preferred to come out on top.
Select 1 - 2 - 3

19:34 Sprint
Interesting that Irish handler Pat Curtin sticks around after his Derby exit the other night to run Whizzing Around, who is not a recognised sprinter but trialled well last month. However King Nicky, winner of a Derby heat and despite a lack of sprint form himself may prove best in a weak affair.

19:49 Standard
Millwards Matt beat high class Faroe Barracuda in the Derby first round and provided he can avoid fellow wide seed Guinness Dusty early on looks the one to play. 'Dusty' will have his confidence boosted after a good trial but is a very infrequent winner, although he was a dual big race finalist last autumn.

20:04 Sprint
Plenty of possibilities here with Southview Ace from the same connections as prolific winning Fernhill Jess highly respected after a recent 'clock' at Coventry. Droopys Quincy has failed to reproduce his form after his own track-record at Sheffield but has trialled in well. However, old-timer Lil Risky has an excellent record here and is taken to topple the younger brigade.

20:19 Stayers
Sinbad out of top class marathon bitch Midway Skipper and a useful A1 local looks sure to relish the step up in trip, but Hollyoak Laelaps is another bred for the job and may prove more effective at this trip. Black Bolero had some useful Irish marathon form but is struggling to win races.
