Follow The Money: Chant being backed to make a big noise at Carlisle

Will the FTM team net us a profit this afternoon?

The day before Royal Ascot is not particularly known for manic market moves, as exemplified by today's markets which are fairly static...

One or two nibbles are developing and the first of those concerns Ralph Beckett's promising gelding Pearl Bridge in the 15:00 at Kempton. This is an improving sort whose last win has been franked by the second and third who have both recorded wide margin wins since then. The market move in from 2.37n/a to 2.01/1 suggests confidence so we make him the short-priced back of the day.

The 15:45 at Carlisle is a poor race, which is a good thing for backers of Chant, who has yet to take top honours in an 11 race career. On his side is his consistency and the fact that he should stay on up the hill better than some of his rivals. Finishing to good effect last time out over slightly further certainly bodes well for his attempt up the gruelling home straight at Carlisle. Steady support has resulted in a price drop from 6.25/1 into 4.216/5, so he's worth considering.

There aren't any real drifters today but Levi Draper has been matched at 3.711/4 and is now hovering around the 4.216/5 mark. The Fanshawe runner lines up in the 17:00 at Kempton in what seems to be a fairly competitive handicap. The son of Rock of Gibraltar seems to be improving but his form so far isn't earth shattering and layers will be hoping that something will come out of the pack to foil his possible treble.
