Will the FTM team have a winner at Ascot this afternoon?
The Follow The Money team have gone through the Royal Ascot markets to come up with three selections on Gold Cup day...
We start in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at 15:05 where the favourite, Alive Alive Oh, has been easy to back. She is now trading at 3.259/4 having earlier been 2.51n/a. The selection does come here in good form having won a Listed race at Navan last month and goes for a hat-trick this afternoon. However, today is clearly her hardest test thus far, she is unraced on today's forecast fast ground and must also prove her stamina over this 12 furlong trip. With plenty of other unexposed runners in the line up, at the prices the filly looks one to be against.
Next we move along to the 17:00 Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes which has seen good support for Remote, in to 3.8514/5 from 4.94/1. This well bred colt arrives on an upward curve having won his maiden earlier this season at Newbury before following up at the start of this month in handicap company at Doncaster, the form of which has since been boosted. Today's rise in class means he has to step up again but that looks set to happen with this return to 10 furlongs set to suit and plenty more improvement to come. He has also won on good and fast ground. Everything points to a big run again this afternoon.
Finally, in the 17:35 King George V handicap stakes, Number One London has come in for support at big prices. He is in to 12.011/1 from 24.26n/a. It could appear at first glance that backing a six time raced maiden to win a Royal Ascot handicap is a sure fire way to throw away money but the selection has made the frame on several occasions and bumped into a few useful opponents. Runner up earlier this month off the same mark as today's, the big key now is the step up to 12 furlongs which looks to be sure to suit. A good run looks likely in an open finale to day three.
