Kempton Placepot: Monday June 17

Today's Placepot comes from Kempton

Kempton's all-weather meeting is the venue for Monday's crack at the Placepot...

14:30- A tricky opening to proceedings and we will need to include a couple to ensure progression. The first horse to take the eye is the Tony Carroll-trained Time Square who finished an encouraging second on his most recent start at Goodwood. He appeared to settle much better than is often the case, apparently relishing the drop back from one and a half miles, and he promises to go well again. Tyrur Ted has built up a good partnership with today's rider, winning twice and finishing third on the other occasion, and he enters this contest in good heart.

15:00- Pearl Bridge and Royal Challis look sure to dominate the market and, as a consequence, carry plenty of lines, so it could be worth taking them on in the hope of a Placepot-busting result. Royal Acquisition made little impact on his handicap debut at Ripon but it was possibly a case of doing too much too soon and he is well worth another chance based on the promise he showed when winning his maiden at Lingfield. Silca's Dream has been out of sorts of late but there have been a few valid excuses and a return to his best would make him very competitive.

15:30- The step back up to six furlongs looks sure to suit The Dark Wizard and he goes in as our first banker of the day. He sets the standard based on his efforts at Nottingham and Windsor -where he finished third and second respectively - and he has strong claims of getting off the mark today.

16:00- Could Be had been in good form prior to disappointing at Yarmouth last time but that effort is easy to forgive as it was the first time that he had encountered testing conditions, and a return to the polytrack should see him give a better account. Poyle Thomas shaped with promise against some well-bred types at Sandown and is of obvious interest in a contest like this, particularly with improvement on the cards.

16:30- Ebony Roc hails from a yard in tremendous form at present and he showed enough on his recent handicap debut at Lingfield to suggest that he can make an impact from a mark such as this. Significantly, Ebony Roc attracted plenty of market support prior to that reappearance run and the step up to one and a half miles looks likely to be in his favour.

17:00- Levi Draper is bred to be operating at a much higher level than this and he appears to be getting his act together, breaking his maiden on his final start last term and making a successful reappearance at Salisbury last month. Those two wins came over shorter but he has already proven effective over this trip and James Fanshawe's strong-travelling type promises to put up a bold show. This is competitive, though, so we will also include Intomist. Jim Boyle's gelding is thriving at present and ran right up to his best when failing to land the four-timer at Salisbury last time. There is little reason to suspect that he won't continue his run of fine form.
