Timeform Irish SmartPlays: Iris to shed light on proceedings

Racing takes place at Navan this evening.

Timeform suggest three bets at Navan this evening...

Jan Van Eyck (17:50), a half-brother to several winners including the useful Dark Cheetah, was back to form when a close up third of 4 behind a useful rival latest. That effort came when equipped with the visor for the first time and, if that aid has a similar effect once more, he appeals as being the one to beat with Stepping Down rated as the main danger.

Curly Wee (18:55) was clearly well thought of last year judging by the races she took in. Her return at the Curragh was encouraging and she can take this now. The three-year-old was the winner of a 6f Cork maiden on second start at 2 yrs prior to finding listed/Group 3 company too hot next 2 runs. Off 9 months, caught the eye on Curragh return in ninth with cheekpieces fitted.

Indigo Iris (19:30) is given the nod in the hope that the drop to 5f can help him settle. The Hamptons is appealingly treated on the pick of his form and Catwilldo is worth another chance having been short of room last time. The four-year-old is still a maiden but is lightly raced on turf and shaped well when -length second of 18 at Navan penultimately, travelling strongly and caught only near finish. Not at best at the Curragh latest.
