Timeform Radio Tips: A brace of bets at Carlisle

Jeremy has two bets at Carlisle.

Claiming hurdles wouldn't necessarily be everybody's cup of poison, but Huntingdon's example this afternoon (13:45) looks to contain one competitor well worth recommending in the shape of Bin End.

Still winless in handicaps despite a 7lb drop over the course of 2012, the King's Best gelding can conversely boast a record of 2-3 in claiming hurdles since first trying them out earlier this year. More significantly still, the victories were gained around Ludlow's sharp, flat right-handed circuit, so nothing about Huntingdon's similar layout should inconvenience. That those wins came on good to firm and soft suggests he won't care whether conditions dry out or deteriorate further, either.

The victory of Bathcounty at Stratford last weekend took rider Felix de Giles's tally to 2-3 when riding for Bin End's trainer Barry Brennan this season. De Giles can be confidently expected to offer more assistance to the selection than both the amateur who partnered him on his disappointing seasonal return, and the conditional who unwisely asked the six-year-old to take on the speedball Marodima up front on his only claiming hurdle defeat to date.

Carlisle's 3m2f handicap chase at 15:10 features an attractive each-way prospect in Rolecarr, dropped down to within 2lb of his last winning mark and at the same time 4lb lower than when registering the fine heavy-ground Ayr third that puts him second in the Timeform adjusted ratings for this contest.

Trainer Ann Hamilton hasn't saddled a winner since June, but the Great Bavington handler is increasingly one who gives her string a period of the summer off before bring them back gradually, and Rolecarr's encouraging cobweb-unsettling fourth at Kelso 15 days ago was actually one of just six runners she has sent out in the past four months.

Top-rated Valley View looks to have greater stamina questions to answer than the selection; African Broadway has thus far produced his best form efforts over 3m or on deep ground, but not at the same time; and My Boy Paddy didn't particularly improve to land his last completed start. Any of these may be able to win if overcoming their respective issues, but it's hard to imagine all of them doing so enough to keep a sharper, race-fit Rolecarr off the podium.
