Alan King saddles Iron Chancellor at Kempton today
Timeform bring you a trio of SmartPlays from Kempton on Monday...
Nicky Henderson famously enjoyed tremendous success on this card last year, but we are happy to oppose his Spirit River with The Druids Nephew in the 13:30. Spirit River, winner of the Coral Cup at the Cheltenham Festival in 2010, is the class act in the race, but his jumping has let him down on a couple of occasions over the larger obstacles and siding with The Druids Nephew, a good second at Ascot recently, looks to be the percentage call. The return to three miles should suit Andy Turnell's charge and he holds solid claims.
Bally Legend (14:35 Kempton) could never get competitive on his chasing debut, finding two miles around Taunton an insufficient test of stamina. He also ran into a couple of useful chasing prospects in Molotof and Changing Times on that occasion and should benefit from entering handicap company on what would appear to be a fair mark. There is good reason to suspect that Caroline Keevil's charge will benefit enormously from that initial chasing experience and he should go close today.
It is possible that Iron Chancellor (15:10 Kempton) was in need of the run when finishing a creditable third on his return at Warwick recently and he should be a lot sharper today. Alan King's charge is a strong stayer with form on testing ground and looks like one of the more reliable options in the race.
