The Troytown Chase takes place at Navan.
Timeform provide a runner-by-runner guide to the feature race at Navan on Sunday...
Tharawaat was back to his best when winning at Galway (2m) on return last season. Failed to make a real impact thereafter, though, for all that he was far from disgraced in the Grand National on latest start in April.
Donnas Palm won twice as a novice over fences last term, but patently not as good in this sphere as he was over hurdles (very smart at best) and disappointing in couple of minor events so far this season.
Start Me Up got off the mark over fences in C&D maiden in December. Generally held form well since, creditable 11 lengths fourth behind Raz de Maree in 14-runner Munster National at Limerick latest. Couldn't rule out.
Tofino Bay is a smart hurdler who made winning chase debut in 2m maiden here in September. Not so good when second of 3 at Cork since (laboured effort), but certainly capable of better and step up to 3m will suit.
Medical Card quickly made up into better chaser than hurdler, winning maiden at Limerick and Grade 2 at Naas last winter. However, pulled up last 2 starts and may need this following a 201-day absence.
Faltering Fullback's form tailed off after a good second over timber last term but back to form with a bang when landing Kerry National at Listowel (3m) in September. However, more required here off 14 lb higher mark.
Crash was going the right way over fences, winning maiden in December and good efforts next two outings. Subsequent displays have been strewn with jumping errors, though, and looks up against it here.
In Complaince is now a veteran who was a smart chaser at his best (winner of Grade 1 at Punchestown in 2006). Solid effort when fifth in the Grand National on latest start in April, but not the easiest to predict nowadays.
Jadanli was the winner of 2010 Powers Gold Cup. Well below that level in 9 subsequent runs, however, often lacking fluency at his fences. No doubt that he's on a handy mark, but others look more solid here.
Orpheus Valley is a front runner who made up into a better chaser than hurdler in 2009. Back to best when running away with a 21f handicap at Roscommon last month and, though 10 lb higher now, he has to be respected.
Like Your Style landed a maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse and Punchestown handicap chase (fortuitous winner in latter event) last term. Should be spot-on following recent run over hurdles, but not the best of jumpers.
Romanesco's jumping can be sketchy, and he was poised to score when falling at the last at Cheltenham on penultimate start. However, made no mistake at Fakenham a week later, scoring cosily, and just 6 lb higher here.
Kyle's Turn tends to carry head high and can make mistakes, but seems genuine enough, and as good as he's ever been when landing a 2m handicap chase at Down Royal latest. However, 8 lb higher in a tougher race.
Sean Airgead is a winning hurdler who has improved over fences this summer, taking Uttoxeter handicap (21f) in July and creditable efforts all 4 starts since. Needs to raise his game to defy this mark, though.
Corskeagh Royale returned from lengthy absence to win maiden chase at Ballinrobe (2m) in May, but has shown nothing in 3 races subsequently (over hurdles the last twice) and questions to answer now.
Mister First is a fairly useful chaser who fell at Gowran on return. In the frame 4 times since, but suspicion that a strongly-run race over this trip will stretch his stamina.
The Hard Hat scored off 7 lb lower at Punchestown (2m) last November and sound efforts in defeat in 3 subsequent outings. Career-best needed it he's to take this, but no surprise if he makes his presence felt.
Ballyburke got off the mark over hurdles in 2m Cork maiden in January and subsequently showed fairly useful form over fences. Well held in 2 spins back over timber this term, but should be cherry-ripe now.
Zardsky is a point winner who created good impression when beating Agus A Vic in hunter chase at Fairyhouse in February. In the frame both starts in handicap chases this season and still relatively unexposed.
Glenquest is a fairly useful hurdler/chaser at best. Has a few runs under his belt (all over hurdles) since returning from a lengthy absence in September, but not much room for manoeuvre off current chase mark.
Healys Bar is a temperamental sort with a poor strike rate. Was a decidedly useful hurdler in 2009/10, but not got close to that form over fences and well held both starts so far this term. RESERVE 1.
Miss Pepperpot was better than ever last term, landing handicap chases at Naas and Thurles. Kept on strongly when third on return at Galway (2m) last month and claims back up in trip here if making the cut. RESERVE 2.
Bangonform was a fair hurdler/chaser who has scored twice at Tramore this season, easily landing 12-runner handicap chase last month. Mistake 3 out knocked the stuffing out of him the Cork National latest. RESERVE 3.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Ballyburke
2. Romanesco
3. Orpheus Valley
Timeform Verdict: Orpheus Valley won well last time out and is not passed over lightly. However, it's interesting to note that 9 of the last 10 winners of this race have carried 10 st 9 lb or lower, and 4 of those were aged 7. That brings likely favourite Romanesco right into the picture, but it could be worth chancing Ballyburke who has a good overall record at this track and is relatively unexposed over fences.
