Don Cossack eases to success on hurdles bow

Don Cossack looks like a nice prospect for Gordon Elliott

Don Cossack landed the odds in good style when making a winning debut over jumps at Navan...

A winner of three bumpers last term, the Gordon Elliott-trained five-year-old shrugged aside long-time leader Sizing Gold from the second-last and won comfortably.

Davy Russell was able to ease the Gigginstown House-owned gelding in the final strides as the long odds-on shot strode to a nine-and-a-half-length success.

Elliott said: "He idled a little bit in front, but Davy was very happy with him. He will probably come back here for the Grade 1 Navan Novice Hurdle (December 16) which is over two and a half miles."

"We will definitely be stepping him up in trip. We will take it one step at a time with him and it's nice to get that race out of the way."
