Timeform Dubai SmartPlays: Thursday November 8

Meydan plays host to racing on Thursday.

Timeform suggest three bet's on Thursday's card at Meydan...

The 15:35 is probably the most competitive race on the card but we are going to bank on race fitness and go with Enjoy Today who ran well enough at Jebel Ali last week to warrant inclusion here. There was a slight doubt about him on the surface at Jebel Ali and those fears were rather borne out, failing to travel with much fluency and essentially always struggling to land a significant blow. His form at Meydan last season looks good, particularly his staying-on fifth behind Rutland Boy in a race that subsequently worked out very well. He is stepping up in trip today which rather goes against his pedigree (out of Queen's Logic and a half-brother to Lady Of The Desert) but a lack of pace over shorter has seemed his undoing and hopefully last week's outing will have put an edge on him.

No heroics with the second selection in the 16:10, Rochdale simply has to be supported on his reappearance given his record fresh. He has won his first two outings in each of the last two seasons and as long as age isn't catching up with him, and there weren't too many signs it was last season, it seems reasonable to assume he will be primed for this. It is slightly surprising to see Royston Ffrench desert him in favour of Zain Shamardal who undoubtedly is a horse going the right way and rates a big danger, but Rochdale is just 2 lb higher than when successful last season and it will be disappointing if he doesn't go close.

The minor event at 16:45 is as good a race as you are likely to see outside of Carnival events and the one to be on is Haatheq who has everything in his favour. He contested two rounds of the Maktoum Challenge last season, running noticeably well when second to Mendip before finding the Godolphin Mile too hot on his final start. He did finish behind Treble Jig at Jebel Ali in January but I expect him to reverse form given Treble Jig is both penalised and possibly better on dirt, another of his main dangers, Canwinn, also carrying a penalty. Barbecue Eddie usually needs his first run of the season and his best form has come at 7f so everything looks to be in Haatheq's favour and he can get his season off to a winning start.
