Taunton Placepot: Tuesday October 30

Today's Placepot comes from Taunton

Timeform's Tony McFadden concentrates on today's National Hunt meeting at Taunton...

13:30 - With a couple of tricky handicaps to negotiate later on the card, we will attempt to save lines in this opening novices' hurdle, banking on the Alan King-trained Turn Over Sivola. Having displayed some fairly useful form in bumpers, the five-year-old gelding got off the mark over hurdles at the first attempt, winning with a bit to spare at Plumpton. He should be difficult to keep out of the frame.

14:00 - Our chances of progression will be significantly compromised should one come out of this sixteen-runner field, so, needless to say, there will be no bankers here. The first horse we turn to is Terfel's Toscar. Well treated on the best of his form, something was amiss with David Pipe's contender when last seen, but a chance is taken that he will return from a break in good heart. An interesting horse at a decent price we will include is the Charlie Longsdon-trained Green Bank. Slight encouragement can be taken from his recent run at Towcester and he shaped as if worth a try over this trip.

14:30 - Molotof is the most likely winner by some way, but he is sure to be carrying an inordinate amount of units and, on his chasing debut, we will take him on with a couple of rivals. Changing Times already has the benefit of experience over the larger obstacles, impressing with how he travelled and jumped at Carlisle recently. For all that a stiffer test should suit in time, Bally Legend has the pedigree and physique to make a decent chaser and he is also included in the 'pot'.

15:00 - Another competitive sixteen-runner event where a non-runner would prove a cruel blow. Quaddick Lake wasn't the first and will not be the last horse to improve for the switch to Jeremy Scott, winning on his first start for his new yard before running creditably to finish in the places on the next two occasions. Angles Hill is another horse that might benefit from a change of stable, having his first start for Richard Woollacott. He shaped with a degree of promise on his final start in Ireland, finishing second in a maiden hurdle, and may be capable of better in handicap company.

15:30 - Although below-par last time on her first start for a new yard, it might be worth taking a chance that Prickles' jumping holds up and she can take advantage of what looks to be a fair mark. Given connections, it was interesting to see the money come for Palio Square last time. He could not justify the strong market support but he wasn't ridden to best effect, faring best of those that raced close to the pace, and he is worth another chance.

16:00 - Royale's Charter hasn't always impressed with his jumping, but that didn't prevent him getting off the mark over fences last time, winning a novices' chase at Worcester. He remains with untapped potential in this sphere and should be capable of going close, but, with concerns about his jumping, we will also include Quobilai. His latest effort suggested that a right-handed track would suit and he is capable of picking up the pieces should any of the principals fail.
