Against All Odds: Elfsborg's title hopes to go up in smoke

David Elm has scored five league goals this year

High flying Elfsborg are odds-on for their trip to Mjallby in the Allsvenskan this evening but with just one win in their last eight on the road, Paul Robinson thinks they are worth taking on.

Mjallby are 11th in the table having collected 34 points with two games to go. It's been a pretty average campaign for Peter Swrdh's side; eight wins, 10 draws and 10 defeats, with 30 scored and 34 conceded.

After going unbeaten for their first half dozen matches at Strandvallen, Mjallby have fallen to five defeats in their last eight at home. Scoring goals has been an issue, as in those five losses they managed to find the net only once. They did win the other three games though and they kept clean sheets in all of them so their defence is at least performing.

Elfsborg are in a huge battle with Malmo FF and Hacken for the title. They are level on points with Malmo at the top, only trailing on goals scored, with Hacken just two points behind. A win is almost imperative tonight to keep their championship hopes alive, but their form away from home doesn't suggest that one will be forthcoming.

On the road, Jrgen Lennartsson's men have just a single victory to their name in their last eight, and only five all season. They have lost six times and picked up two draws. The problem has been conceding too many goals; 17 against in that eight game period, achieving just one clean sheet, and they let in four against rivals, Hacken.

This is a must win game for Elfsborg and that has played a part in their price being as low as 1.9210/11, however they just haven't shown the recent away form to get the job done and that's why I have to make them my lay of the day.
