Cameron Tringale - Joe Dyer's e/w selection this week
It's a relatively low key event ahead of next week's US Open but there's still and winner and at least five places up for grabs, so here's who the betting.betfair golf team believe can claim a place...
Joe Dyer says: Back Cameron Tringale @ 61.0n/a
In 97 PGA Tour events Cameron Tringale has 10 top-10 finishes to his name and looks primed for another decent outing at this week's St Jude Classic. The Californian impressed in the early season, finishing third at the Tampa Bay Championship, but then endured a torrid time with four missed cuts. He brought that to an end at the Crowne Plaza and followed up with a 16th place finish at The Memorial. Accuracy will be the key asset this week and Tringale has that in spades. A price of 61.0n/a is more than fair.
Steve Rawlings says: Back DA Points @ 67.0n/a
Already a winner and a runner-up this season, it's perfectly possible that D.A Points has had his purple patch for 2013 but I'm not giving up on him just yet. He missed the cut at the Memorial Tournament last week but there were plenty of positives in evidence on his penultimate start at the Byron Nelson where he scrambled and putted well to record a top-12 finish and in what is a relatively weak field, I thought he was a fair price at 67.0n/a.
Mike Norman says: Back Robert Karlsson at 41.0n/a
I was of the opinion that Robert Karlsson would be a much bigger (no pun intended) success than he has been on the PGA Tour but if there's one place where he has played well then it's here at TPC Southwind. The tall Swede was beaten in a play-off here in both 2010 and 2011, and although I'm not a huge fan of course form if a player isn't in great current form Karlsson has at least shown some glimpses of good form of late, not least at Quail Hollow where he finished in a tie for fourth.
Dan Geraghty says: Back Luke Guthrie @ 81.0n/a
Big things were expected of PGA tour rookie Luke Guthrie this year following a remarkable 2012 on the Web.com tour. The young American currently sits in a very healthy 54th position in the FedEx Cup and looks like he belongs out there. This week at the St Jude Classic marks the first tournament this year that Guthrie has played before, he was 19th last year; that experience will surely be welcome after being thrown in at the deep end as a rookie. Another boost to the youngster's confidence came on Monday when he sunk a five foot putt at the Lakes Golf and Country Club to qualify for the next week's US Open, his first major.
Paul Krishnamurty says: Back David Toms @ 81.0n/a
The St Jude Classic leaderboard usually includes several older players that know this Southwind course inside out, so I'm taking a chance on David Toms at 81.0n/a on this return to one of his favourite tracks. At his peak, Toms was the ultimate course specialist, winning the title twice and making the top-four no fewer than six times. Admittedly, there is little in his 2013 figures to recommend, although he did show top-class form when finishing 13th at the Masters and his most recent round was a 66.
