Bubbly Rocky runs at Hove this evening
Hove and Monmore provide the Thursday night action for Racing Post Greyhound TV viewers (Sky channel 212) with Romford's regular Open race card headlining the live coverage on Friday. Darrell Williams is across it all...
One of the most effective formulas for winner finding during the Derby is to back greyhounds that have just been eliminated from the sport's premier competition. Paul Young's Bubbly Rocky a second round casualty last weekend has an excellent record around Hove's 475m trip anyway with five wins from eight tries and therefore makes plenty of appeal in the 21:56, especially with Malbay Phanter - beaten at short odds last week - poorly drawn in trap four.
Young can also be on the mark in the preceding race (21:40) where puppy Millwards Mussy should enjoy plenty of racing room inside Lady Jayne and can reverse last week's form with Farran North.
With slow starters in traps two and three, Hanover Lady, just denied by a perhaps surprisingly disqualified Recycled Theo last week, can finally end her maiden status in the sprint at 21:24. Her trainer Norah McEllistrim can also compete a double with Princess Pati, who can dominate the 'Ladies' race (22:26) from trap to line, while Droopys Xavier should have few problems landing the odds in the preceding contest (22:11).
Monmore offers up an all-graded card, but with obvious lead ability claims, backers shouldn't miss Ardera Divine in the A7 (20:10), while a lay of Mays Gold in a tougher A1 (20:42) than he won last week might also yield dividends.
Romford's highlight on Friday is a 400m final (21:24) which features a host of perennial London Road favourites, but with a poor draw in trap four Shaneboy Ozzy, whose wins have all come from the inside two boxes, looks ripe to take on. With that in mind, Ayamzaman, who has a surprisingly good record in trap five with six wins from nine over the CD, rates the one to beat.
Back on the Derby eliminations theme, Smiler Jack, who has always reserved his best form for Romford anyway, looks hard to oppose in the 575m contest that closes the card at 22:40 following his second round exit at Wimbledon last weekend.
Oakfield Lucy looked one to follow after a brace of good wins late last month and can return to winning ways for Ernie Gaskin over the same six bend trip at 22:11, while improving A1 local Droopys Lorimer should have the early speed to make an immediate impact in Open race company for Alison Ingram in the maiden at 19:46.
Welsh Wizard, from a decent litter that includes Courts Ad Stanley, has an improving profile and can claim the maiden stayers event for Jim Reynolds at 20:18.
Layers are directed towards Slick Seamist (20:50), a very fast dog but one who will need to do everything right to overcome her trap five draw, while Oneco Storm (21:06) may also struggle to get loose from trap three.
