In stark contrast to the rejuvenated Woods, 2013 has so far been a miserable affair for McIlroy. Having begun the year as world number one and widely regarded as the man to beat, Rory has barely featured on a final day leaderboard since, only notably contending in the Texas Open. His last two results at Wentworth and Memorial were particularly disappointing. Moreover, while any former US Open champion commands the utmost respect, the wet, target golf conditions at Congressional in 2011 were nothing like the norm for this major and either side of his victory, Rory missed the cut.
