Gordon Elliott: My views on Crash at Listowel today

Davy Condon rides Crash for Gordon Elliott today

The Irish bank holiday Monday racing action comes from Naas and Listowel, where Cullentra House have one runner on the card in Co. Kerry. Read Gordon Elliott's exclusive views here on his sole runner...

16.50 Listowel - Crash

This will be his first run for us today since coming to the yard from Michael Hourigan's at the start of May. He was a three time winner under rules for that yard under all codes, winning a bumper at Fairyhouse, a maiden hurdle at Thurles and a chase at Punchestown and if you add his point-to-point success in 2009 to his tally it's quite clear how durable a horse he really is, and a credit to Michael also.

His last victory came at Punchestown at the end of 2011 in a beginners' chase, and he hasn't managed to get his head in front since then but has been running with credit in some good races. It's quite often seen that a change of scenery can often freshen horses up and bring them on a touch and if we could manage to get this horse back to his best form (Highest OR 140 over fences, Current OR 126 over fences) he'd have to be a big player off his current mark in handicap chases.

He's a very big horse, nearly 18 hands and he has had issues in the past because of that but if we could get a bit of a run out of him and get him racing regularly he could possibly bounce back to a bit of form. All of his wins have come with a bit of give underfoot so the forecast soft ground over this trip of 2m3f will play to his strengths as he handles conditions like that very well indeed. He has the cheeckpieces on for the first time, and with Davy Condon booked to ride I'd be delighted if he managed to finish in the money on his first run for us today.
