Follow The Money: Cash for Storm suggests he'll be at his Peak today

Peak Storm is being backed to win at Chepstow today

Today's Follow The Money comes from the meetings at Chepstow and Leicester...

We start at Chepstow where Bonjour Steve has proved easy to back in the opening 5f Maiden Stakes at 14:30, now available to back at 3.65n/a having been as low as 2.915/8. This two-year-old performed with credit on debut, running well before being outpaced and being beaten just over four lengths into third place, and although no winners have yet to come out of the contest their performances have suggested it was a decent race. However he has to prove himself on the quicker ground he will encounter here and faces an interesting newcomer in the shape of Taquka, sent out by Oaks-winning trainer Ralph Beckett, and a positive mover in Mr Dandy Man. The market vibes hint that he may have to wait to shed his maiden tag.

We stay at the Welsh venue where Peak Storm has been well-supported in the 1m Handicap at 16:00, having been backed into 6.05/1 from a high of 8.88/1. After running mainly on the Polytrack at Wolverhampton this four-year-old returned from a break to finish a never nearer fourth here over 7f at the beginning of May before returning to the same venue to record his first win just under two weeks later over the same distance. Although up 5lbs and having been found wanting for stamina when twice tried over 9f, the mile trip could prove ideal given today's underfoot conditions and bring about further improvement. With trainer John O'Shea having a 20% success rate at the course and having had a winner in recent days, the move indicates he could follow up.

We go to Leicester for our final selection where there has been steady money for Canon Law to land the 1m Maiden Stakes at 17:15, now trading at 7.26/1 in to 12.011/1. This Holy Roman Emperor colt cost 98,00gns as a yearling but it seemed not too much was expected on his debut, going off at a BSP of 27.5. However he showed some promise over the straight mile at Doncaster, running green and being hampered before making late headway to finish in midfield, and the race has thrown up a few winners since. With the trainer/jockey partnership of Luca Cumani and Kieran Fallon running at a 21% strike rate at the Midlands track and some of his likely main rivals weak in the market, the contraction in odds suggests an improved showing is in the offing.
