Capital One Cup Results: Comeback kings Arsenal backed at 719/1 for trophy

Theo Walcott collects the match ball after his hat-trick

On a night of high drama in the Capital One Cup, some punters cashed in on a remarkable comeback at the Madejski Stadium...

As Arsenal looked dead and buried at 4-0 down to Reading within 37 minutes of their fourth-round clash, the Gunners were backed at a staggering 720.0719/1 to pull off a remarkable rescue act and actually go on to lift the trophy.

Incredibly, part one of that deal materialised as Theo Walcott helped inspire a stunning 7-5 victory after extra-time and now Arsenal have morphed into 4.94/1 favourites for Capital One Cup glory.

Other forward-thinking punters - a staggering 766 no less - benefitted from huge in-play odds by backing Arsenal to restore parity before the 90-minute final whistle when the draw was priced at a whopping 95.094/1.

The over 7.5 goals market was another one in which braveness was handsomely reward both pre-play and in-play at 85.084/1 and 80.079/1 respectively.

Yet more healthy odds were snapped up in-play on Arsenal to qualify at 34.033/1 by six punters who kept faith with Arsene Wenger's eventual heroes when they were busy performing the role of zeroes.

There were plenty more dramas elsewhere in the fourth round too as three Premier League teams were dumped out of the competition by lower-league opposition.

Aston Villa came extremely close to joining that list as Paolo Di Canio's League One Swindon battled back from 2-0 down with two goals in three minutes to set up a tense finale, before Christian Benteke sealed Villa's passage with a 90th-minute winner.

Those who got behind the 2-3 scoreline before the game enjoyed odds of 42.041/1 and would have been thrilled to see Benteke's clincher hit the net at the County Ground.

Others not so lucky were Sunderland, dumped out 1-0 by north-east rivals Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light. Scott McDonald was the Boro hero, scoring shortly before half-time in the Tees-Wear derby, making it five wins on the spin for Tony Mowbray's charges.

Leeds resumed where they left off against Everton by slamming three past struggling Premier League side Southampton at Elland Road and punters who backed over 2.5 goals in-play market were rewarded with odds as high as 46.045/1 thanks to late goals from El-Hadji Diouf and Luciano Becchio.

Finally, another Yorkshire team caused a huge upset as League Two Bradford went to the DW Stadium and toppled Wigan via a penalty shootout to ensure the fourth tier of a rare representative in the quarter-final draw.
